December 2012
I love seeing you happy, Isobel, I just said to my little
girl.
I love being happy.
But I can’t control feeling angry or frustrated, she added.
We’ve been away for around a month now and it’s been great
for me to watch Isobel smile more and more and to see her sparkling eyes
again. She’s happiest when she’s beside
the ocean we’ve noticed. It doesn’t
matter if it’s blowing a gale, freezing, scorching hot or sunny, she’ll dart in
and out of the waves, run alongside the water’s edge and it looks to me as
though she feels as free as a bird and in love with all the elements. She’s exhilarated by it.
Hugo’s quick wit is developing rapidly and his face shape
has changed since we left QLD; I can see he’s growing up. His insatiable thirst for knowledge is still
just that; just now he was asking Simon what an amp is and how much it is
worth. He regularly wakes up in the
morning and before he says ‘good morning’ he’s asking a question about the
universe.
Otto has got quite a few little curls around his ears, has
settled into car travelling after his early resistance to it and is becoming
more and more ‘one of the kids.’ He goes
off on the adventures with Dad and the ‘kids’; playing beach cricket, climbing
rocks or going fishing.
A big part of the reason we wanted to do this trip was to
spend more time with our kids at this age as we figured that before we knew it,
they’d all be grown up and wouldn’t want to hang out with their parents for a
year. So glad we’re doing it for this
reason alone.
